The Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society (UFES) is a charitable Catholic society committed to holistic human development. Inspired by the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Ursula, the Society carries forward a rich legacy of education, service, and empowerment across India.
Through our educational institutions, social initiatives, and pastoral ministries, we work to form persons of conscience, competence, compassion, and commitment — women and men who contribute to a just and peaceful society.

The objectives of the Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society (UFES) are to provide education that transforms a child into a responsible human person, creates enlightened citizens, fosters human excellence and social responsibility, and nurtures persons of conscience, competence, compassion, and commitment.
According to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the education system has a tremendous responsibility to transform a child into a leader. Each of us goes through various stages of education and growth—from childhood to adulthood and professional life. At each stage, our response to human needs evolves differently. A child asks, “What can you do for me?” A teenager says, “I want to do it alone.” A young person proclaims, “Let us do it together.” A leader, however, asks, “What can I do for you?” Thus, the greater aim of education is to transform our thinking from “What can you do for me?” to “What can I do for you?”

The focus on ethics and moral values helps the society to battle against the counter forces and contribute to the betterment of every citizen. In modern society Education is a single tool that can bring the needed transformation. It is a means of achieving a world of Peace, justice, freedom and equality for all. Education indorses the intelligence of human beings, develops the skills and enables to be industrious. It not only enlightens the mind but enhances the thought process of a person.

Legacy
A Heritage Born in Mangalore
The journey of the Ursuline Franciscan sisters began in 1887 when a small association of young women at the Rosary Cathedral in Mangalore responded to a call to serve. What started as a mustard seed has grown into a flourishing mission of education and service across India.
In 1934, the Company of St. Ursula received canonical status as the Catechist Sisters of St. Ursula. Over the decades, the congregation established religious houses and schools, carrying the light of learning and faith to countless communities.

These motivating words of Jesus are the basis of the Motto of the Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society. Jesus came to this world that people may have life and have it abundantly. Having fullness of life means having superabundance of life. When we live our life with Jesus who came with the fullness of life we begin to experience the greatness and the worth of our life. Those who receive life from Jesus have in themselves perennial source of life (John 7:38, 4:14) for themselves and for others
